That's how they achieve global uniformity--burnt-assed beans through the same model of superautomatic espresso maker will taste exactly the same, no matter where you are or who's behind the counter. Really, it's the eight hundred calories of brilliantly engineered sugars and fats in your Dulce De Caramel Mocha Lardafrappaccino that lead your tongue to believe you're sampling gourmet goodness. That having been said, the Mermaid exists for one reason--in nearly any burg on this Earth, you can at least deal with the devil you know. Although, to me, ALL coffee tastes like crotch. The only good reason to drink it is because it's not socially acceptable to just get a hot cup of all the flavorings and such, or at least, that sort of thing is never available.
