Amazing that I just got finished rereading Watchmen and then I opened this up. They're not the same (and, frankly, while this is terrific, Watchmen is on a whole 'nother level), but the lines of inspiration are pretty clearly very similar.

Funny you should bring it up... My parents are moving into a new house and while cleaning out their basement today I found, basically, the entire Chapterhouse Press back office. Would you be interested in a hundred-or-so copies of Mythic Heroes #4?

http://www.eyrie.org/~dvandom/misc/Scarlet1 - written in 1996 as a possible companion piece to the above.

http://www.dvandom.com/drawings/scarlet.GIF - drawn about the same time, in dire need of rescanning.

Fanworks from the dawn of time!

Holy crap that was awesome. Adventurous, classic, and really sad. I really got the feeling of the age of the character, and the summary style of telling the story really works well for the letter that he's writing. Of course, now I want to hear more about the Swashbuckler's adventures. Get some more details on it. Once again, though, really cool.
