I always found it odd how (excepting Hulk and Nick Fury) most of Marvel’s characters aren’t copied as much…

It's all about archetypes. DC does more archetype stuff, Marvel does more heavy-story-driven stuff.

However, the Justice Wing world does have Marvel-influenced characters as well. In particular about half of Freya (the Thor half), the Lieutenant (who has strong shades of Captain America), and the Centurion (who is about half Iron Man and about a quarter Green Lantern -- and yes, I'm aware of the Amalgam Iron Lantern story).

^_^ Ah, the archetypes of heroes. I have great fun following the various Mutants and Masterminds sourcebooks as they explore these. It's particularly fun sitting down and figuring out exactly which characters they're ripping off and how they differ.

You know, the Venture Brothers didn't _have_ much more than this when they started pitching the show.

Its not like Eric is even close to the only one to have variations/homages/parodys of DC's Iconic Two. Eric's Mighty Guy and Trashman from his Super-Guy days, Samaratin and Black Rapier for Astro City, Midnighter and Apollo (who I think are Ellis creations from when he was on Stormwatch), Revenant (who's original creator I've forgotten again, but is now written by Aaron Williams for ps238) and IIRC Nemesis, CoreFire and Black Wolf from "Soon I Will Be Invincible". Hyperion and Nighthawk for Marvel. Erik Larsen had SolarMan and Sgt. Marvel in Savage Dragon...

Oh -- one note.

"Darkhood" in my notes and the first draft of "Interviewing Leather" predates the character's inclusion in Evil Inc.. It was just one of those convergence of names that happens when you write superheroes.

"Greystone City," on the other hand, is an homage and nod to Brad Guigar's earlier comic strip Greystone Inn. Guigar's a fan of the comic strip going way back, and even in the GI days he highlighted his love for superheroes.

Just for the record.

One good thing about the old Superguy setting is that it gave a lot of opportunities to write serious stories around silly and mockable concepts (much as the Legion of Net.Heroes does). So Eric's had practice addressing the mockable without actually mocking it. :)

Your writing is so vivid, this story is a believable glimpse of the life of a supervillan.

Did you happen to catch this article on "Why Superheroes Win"? http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn12568-why-superheroes-always-win.html

I would like to note for the record that I like the way that you can note the absurdities of the supers genre while never once mocking them - or worse, be condescending about them.

You grok this stuff, dude.
