Additionally, I like the whole "finding more and more brutal things to shoot at him" line, emphasizes the whole "arms race" aspect of it all not to mention (I suspect) hinting that the collateral damage is going to grow as well. Of course, as a real mystery hero, he should know that the next step is to pull out fancy Eastern hoodoo like hypnosis.
