On Continuity, Statements, Revisions and Retcons

I made it perfectly clear, back in the days when things updated, that there were several universes dealing with the ‘superheroic,’ if such is a word we would want to use.

In particular, the Mythic hero, from long ago, in times of mystery men.

And the wings of Justice, or tales of now.

And I have no doubt but that when I said these things they were the truth.

But much has happened. To me. To them.

Maybe there was a crisis. A calamity. A disaster most foul.

Or maybe there was a hop between universes and worlds.

Or maybe we didn’t know the truth before, but we do now.

Maybe.

All I do know is this.

Mythic
Emergent
Halcyon
Cataclysmic
Nadiral

Justice Wing.

Linearity is for suckers.

Interviewing Trey #12

This entry is part 12 of 12 in the series Interviewing Trey

And here we are at the end of the week, and with any kind of luck at all, this post will actually appear on Friday. My old friend Jonathan Lennox thinks that a modern myth discussing the scheduling daemons that actually put the posts up at their appointed times is in order, to perhaps mollify said spirits and give them the recognition they deserve. I’m pretty sure he’s right. It’s generally a mistake to get those guys angry at you. Think about how many scheduled events you have in your life on a day to day basis.

But, that’s not for today. Today we’ve got the second Trey post this week, getting us caught back up. Hope you like it!

Interviewing Trey #11

This entry is part 11 of 12 in the series Interviewing Trey

Tuesday, and it’s time to play catchup with Interviewing Trey. Which I hope was worth the wait, because in this episode….

Oh God, I don’t know if I dare say it… no, wait. I must say it.

In this episode… he actually interviews Trey

I know. Shocking.

Here it is. Lovelace tomorrow, then more Trey on Friday. Thanks as always, and tip your waiters.

(One last thing. Trey’s opinions should not be taken as the author’s. But we knew that, right?)

Interviewing Trey #10

This entry is part 10 of 12 in the series Interviewing Trey

Interviewing Trey is up. I’m just in from seeing the Rifftrax Live production/riffing of Starship Troopers, and I’m fried as all get out, so I’m just throwing it straight to Chapman. Have a good weekend!

Interviewing Trey #9

This entry is part 9 of 12 in the series Interviewing Trey

And here we have the Friday dose of Trey Being Interviewed, which is something of a lie. I mean, honestly — have we actually seen Trey interviewed yet? Maybe not. You may have guessed this particular story isn’t a novella like Interviewing Leather was.

For the record, that novella-length is something of a curse. I’d love to send Leather around — see if she’ll play in Peoria, but not many folks are interested in novellas these days. I thought seriously about expanding it into a short novel, but ‘expanding’ would mean close to doubling its length, and I don’t think that would serve the story at all. Clearly, I need to get a book contract or four somewhere, so an agent can decide to sell Interviewing Leather and other stories, because God knows short story anthologies are big business these days.

Regardless, have a new chapter.

Interviewing Trey #8

This entry is part 8 of 12 in the series Interviewing Trey

I’m enjoying writing Interviewing Trey. In the end, the driver for these stories, in my own brain, is working out the why of certain types of supervillain or supervillainous organization. In the case of Leather, back in the last story, that why shaped Leather’s little gang and her modus operandi.

But this time?

What is the why of the Jack O’Knaves?

That won’t get answered here, today. But it’ll get batted around a bit. I hope you like it.

Interviewing Trey #7

This entry is part 7 of 12 in the series Interviewing Trey

And here we are, back again with Interviewing Trey. Due to things and stuff, it’s actually been some time, for which I apologize.

When last we left off, the Jack O’Knaves had just foisted intrepid reporter Todd Chapman onto Trey — one of his most prominent magician’s assistants and henchmen. She was tasked in finding a replacement for Deuce, who the Jack had killed when Chapman was being kidnapped. There was also some discussions about casinos and lots of people in polo shirts.

In one sense, it almost feels like we just got out of the prologue. After all, the story’s called Interviewing Trey, and we’re actually in a position where Chapman might actually get to ask a question or two. Might, anyway.

I hope you like it.

Interviewing Trey #6

This entry is part 6 of 12 in the series Interviewing Trey

I doubt somewhat that many folks will see this right away, what since there was an American holiday yesterday, and that’s where a lot of my readers hale from, but just in case we’re at part six of Interviewing Trey, which is remarkable when you consider that Interviewing Leather only went to part fourteen. How long will this one go? Hard to say at this juncture — but I doubt we’re halfway done..

With a little luck, this part will begin to highlight some of the real differences not only of scale but of operation. And maybe, just maybe, lead to justifying our title a bit more.

Enjoy!

Interviewing Trey #5

This entry is part 5 of 12 in the series Interviewing Trey

Friday shows up, and here we are ready for Part Five of Interviewing Trey. I hope everyone’s feeling good.

It’s interesting to me what people latch onto, writing wise. I figured Trey would start to catch on and it has. I didn’t know if Lovelace 1/2 would catch on or not, but it’s getting something of a passionate following. The myths aren’t getting the audience that once they would have known, but that’s likely more a matter of time than anything else. Plus, I think the myths are where most of my ring-rust has shown. Monday’s is I think the best written of what’s come so far.

But that’s not why you’re here today. Here’s the latest. Enjoy!

Interviewing Trey #4

This entry is part 4 of 12 in the series Interviewing Trey

It’s Friday — and you know what that means. It’s another day where we’re Interviewing Trey — not that the interview has really started.

This episode… um… yeah. You know what? I’ll try to get complete notes on it later this morning, because I can’t exactly put them in now. I may even write a tumblr post about it or something. It’s nothing that big in one sense, but I think it underscores differences in my writing process from 2007 to now.
