Lovelace 1/2 #13

This entry is part 13 of 13 in the series Lovelace 1/2

As stated in the Labor Day post, this is one of the busiest two week periods we have in the business of academia. We’ve spent the summer prepping for students and faculty to return, but when they actually do return, things get amazingly crazy, amazingly fast. That’s where we are now, for those playing along at home. So, if my prep time was pushed to mid-day instead of morning… well, for the next two weeks that may happen. Sorry. (insert smily faced emoticon here.)

Of course, actually posting this has been a trial given some hosting company issues….

As for this particular episode of Lovelace 1/2….

Well, it was a hard one to write, but it’s also the first episode I conceptualized from beginning to end as an episode, before I even wrote #1.

Here it is.

Lovelace 1/2 #12

This entry is part 12 of 13 in the series Lovelace 1/2

So. It’s Wednesday, and that means it’s Lovelace 1/2.

This is an exceptionally busy time for me, day job wise. I work at a school — for the record, not Brooks-Carillon. In fact, my school and Brooks-Carillon aren’t that much alike, beyond a superficial similarity common to many private schools. However, we’re gearing up for the start of the school year, and this means my days are long and my nights are short.

Naturally, one of the pivotal moments of the story hits this week.

Here we go….

Lovelace 1/2 #10

This entry is part 10 of 13 in the series Lovelace 1/2

Wednesday means Lovelace 1/2, and this is no exception. I’m not sure what else to say about that. For those who haven’t seen, yet, you’ll notice brand spanking new Series navigation, including a specific series page for Lovelace 1/2 that even features first post to last post ordering. You have to admit — pretty swank.

Things are definitely moving. Where they go… well.

For the record, there may — may — be a moment of wish fulfillment in this episode.

I hope you enjoy Lovelace 1/2 #11

Lovelace 1/2 #9

This entry is part 9 of 13 in the series Lovelace 1/2

There were server problems overnight, so final prep on this post was about a half-hour late. I’m not sure anyone cared (or even noticed) but me, but there we are anyway.

Nine parts into Lovelace 1/2. It’s kind of wild to me how quickly this is going — at least in one sense. Having a novel unfold at this pace is… well, interesting, for certain. In one sense, we’re in Part 9. In another sense, we’re almost finished the beginning, if that makes sense.

Either way, I hope you enjoy!

Lovelace 1/2 #8

This entry is part 8 of 13 in the series Lovelace 1/2

It’s Wednesday, and we’re back to Lovelace 1/2. And I should address something for the record.

I’ve had several people ask me what the title actually says. And I’ve seen one group that — no joke — thought this was a Ranma 1/2 parody where someone got thrown into the pool of drowned first computer programmer, which to be honest sounds awesome. Most people thing it’s “Lovelace One-Half.” I was asked outright what it should be called for purposes of TVTropes, and I said “go with Lovelace One Two,” which is accurate enough.

However, the coy thing is wearing thin for some folks, and it’s not a good enough mystery, and as we have the second actual appearance of the Lovelace corporation in today’s entry (another commercial), I figure I should just say it.

The title, read out loud, is “Lovelace, One Over Two.” Which is another way of saying one-half, I realize, and that’s not inaccurate, but still.

Today’s entry is one I like a lot, because it lets us see the Andi we saw briefly in part 1 come back out, at least for a moment. I hope you like it too.

EDIT: For the record, when setting up a post in the scheduler, and telling it you want to appear at 9 am on the target date, don’t accidentally put 19 instead of 9, because then it will schedule it for 7 pm. Sorry for the delay!

Lovelace 1/2 #7

This entry is part 7 of 13 in the series Lovelace 1/2

And we’re back on track with Lovelace 1/2. You may notice, if you’ve an interest in such things, that we’ve taken the “Story Day” off the post name. After a while, it seems a bit ridiculous to leave it on. Obviously, today’s a ‘story day.’ We’re telling stories over here.

Last time out, we had a pretty good amount of interest in Andi’s parents. I expect today will up the ante on that a good deal.

Lovelace 1/2 #6

This entry is part 6 of 13 in the series Lovelace 1/2

As I stated on Wednesday, I ran into some trouble on Wednesday — and unfortunately there was more than a little crap that came up, which meant some necessary revisions to Lovelace 1/2 part 6 couldn’t get finished until late on Thursday. So, this is going to be our Friday post this week. It means putting Trey off for another week, but I’m actually okay with that, since that’ll sync both stories. This is assuming I don’t decide to post Trey on Monday instead, or do something even more insane.

Either way, here’s Lovelace 1/2 #6. Hope it was worth the wait!

Lovelace 1/2 #5

This entry is part 5 of 13 in the series Lovelace 1/2

Week five of Lovelace 1/2, which has been going quite well so far. It certainly seems to be popular and I enjoy the ‘figuring out Andi’s limits’ discussions that recur. (For those who have asked — oh yes, she has them. In her own way.)

Of course, sooner or later we need to move to the next actual… events of the story….

I hope you like it!

Lovelace 1/2 #4

This entry is part 4 of 13 in the series Lovelace 1/2

Part four of Lovelace 1/2. I’ve been enjoying the speculation of the limits of Andi’s new abilities. There’s some good meat for that discussion in this one — I think, at least. As well as the seeds of… well, what’s going to come next. Enjoy!

Lovelace 1/2 #3

This entry is part 3 of 13 in the series Lovelace 1/2

And now, part three of Lovelace 1/2. So far folks seem to like the story, and that’s awesome. This part is a hair shorter — it’s hard, sometimes, to end on a dramatic beat, as a serial requires, and still make it a heavy length. That said, I’m sure there are plenty of people that are glad to see one of these clock in at less than 2,500 words.

Regardless, enjoy!
